I was introduced to the Neuro-Balance technique by Rory and Penny Park-Ross at the start of 2007 and was very interested in the process from the start, based on the way they had explained it to me.
The first step was to have my brain mapped, and this was done quickly and easily while I was hooked up to a few wires, connected to their PC. The software on the screen was fascinating and made no sense to me at all – but they continued with their questions and testing for about an hour and a half.
The printed result of my first brain map was really an eye opener for me. There, in black and white (and some colour), for all to see – was the reason I could not sleep at night, and the reason why I battled to focus at meetings at work during the day i.e. brain reversal! The cause or source of brain reversal can be many things I was told, but one of them I had definitely had – i.e. Glandular fever. This caused my brain to actually want to shut down and go to sleep during the day, and the minute I wanted to sleep, it would “wake up and start it’s day” – driving me to distraction.
There were other interesting results on the first brain map as well, e.g. one could clearly see where the alpha waves were high and where they were low, where all of the imbalances were in fact between left and right brain and front and back as well, and what the effect of these were on my performance on a daily basis.
A series of protocols were recommended and I commenced on a set of ten sessions with Rory and Penny. From the start it was evident that my brain was not going to accept change easily – it was going to fight this all the way. Even at session No. 8 the resistance was still as strong as ever and I often went home to have a serious conversation with my brain, and to reassure it that these sessions were good for it!.
A two week break between session No 9 and No 10 allowed my brain to build the new neuro pathways it needed, and the assessment brain map after session No. 10 showed what had been achieved. A really good move towards the balancing of alpha, beta and theta on both sides of the brain as well as in the front and back – often with very little difference between them e.g. sometimes as little as 12.65 on one side and 12.63 on the other!
How does this translate on a physical level for me? The first thing I noticed was that I regained the ability to focus during the day – for prolonged periods at a time in meetings. Secondly I noticed that my sleep patterns were returning to normal – very slowly at first, and then all of a sudden back to normal.
Finally I noticed an all-round loss of the discomfort that had always been present with me, physically, for no apparent reason. I started to feel more relaxed and physically more supple and fitter – even though I was not doing any physical exercise during this time.
I think that the Neuro-balance technique fits a very real need in healing today, because it allows you to take part in your own healing through the process of protocols you work with.
It is long overdue and a breakthrough in understanding what it takes to be “balanced” and have a happy and fulfilled life.
In addition, to have this process facilitated by Rory and Penny is an added privilege because of their training, their understanding of the process, their insights and not least because of the wisdom they apply to their practise.
